FBFF- Favorite Books

This week we're talking about our favorite books, or the last 5 that we've read. Here are mine:

I could go into detail about each book-that's a lie, I actually can't. I have a horrible memory for books and all I would be able to present you with is a general outline- and then you would have no need to read the book at all. So coming from someone who doesn't read that often, these are pretty great. No, they really are. START READING!

FBFF- What inspires you

This weeks topic is what inspires us. Well gee- I don't think I ever write that stuff down, I just let it affect me. So I will do my best to pin some down. Here are my top 5.

1. Nature

Ok, so I like trees. Well it's really a wood thing I suppose. Every piece is different and there are unlimited things you can do with it, but it will always break back down to a really natural organic thing. I am also a huge fan of earth tones and trees cover pretty much all of them.

2. Folk Music- Beirut

Their sound reminds me of a foreign place I visited in a dream. Always a bit fantastical, and pretty easy to play on the uke.

3. Early Century Street Style

Ok OK, I know its a picture of the Newsies, but this is the clearest photo representation I could find. The flat caps, suspenders, henley's and button downs. They are all wearing the same thing, and yet each has their own look. Love it!

4. Typewriter fonts

Perfectly imperfect.

That's my thing, and that's what typewriters do.

5. Wes Anderson

Besides having an incredible sense of person style, he seamlessly makes the same connections in all of his movies. From the artwork and fonts, to the costumes and sets. Every element is thought out and nit picked to perfection, and it shows. I love things that flow from one to the next to the next. I never see hiccups in his work. Makes me want to strive for the same.

FBFF: Words of Wisdom

This week our focus is on words of wisdom or a piece of advice that sticks with you.

Treat it like a business.

Sometimes I get too emotionally attached to things and when I am, I fail to do my best or get scared. I make decisions based on feelings instead of thinking things out properly. Yet the moment I think about things in a business sense, my head is cleared and my feelings are put aside. It's like an alter ego- like Beyonce is Sasha Fierce when she's on stage.

Pulling yourself out of a situation and looking at it from a 3rd person perspective is the most clarifying thing for me.

Who released this lovely "snack" of wisdom on my life? We'll he is to remain nameless (to protect his identity of course), but if you must, you can call him Larry.

So the next time you feel confused or afraid- get your Sasha Fierce on- and treat it like a business!

When people ask if you had to choose to be blind or deaf, what do you choose?

I never have to think about that answer. I always choose to be blind. I think most people would choose deaf, since so much of what we do is based off of sight, but not me. I can't imagine a world without music. So while this post is mostly audio based, sight is necessary as well I suppose.

The weather has just started to turn cold and rainy. It makes me want to curl up in something soft and warm and listen to fuzzy records. This song, "To Build A Home" by The Cinematic Orchestra featuring Patrick Watson has been my favorite since I heard it 2 years ago. This song makes me feel like this:

FBFF- Dream Job

This weeks topic asks us, what's your dream job? Mine is definitely a dream because I've never really thought about actually doing it for money. It's always been a relaxing, creative activity that I've kept for myself.

1.Fess up- If you could do anything professionally what would it be?

I would be a professional Collage artist.

2. What draws you to this?

Something about organized clutter really makes me excited. The fact that you are overwhelmed with items, and yet there is a underlying theme or you are telling a really beautiful complex story.

3. When did you first start dreaming about this idea?

I think I first started creating collages in college. I've always thought they were really fun to make, but never thought of doing it seriously...for money.

4. What's holding you back from going all in?

I'm not really sure there is a market for collage artists.

5. Sometimes the first step is the hardest. What's one step you can take now on the way to realizing your dream?

I think I can create more collages more frequently for other people, not just myself. I think once I start doing that, I could try to sell them at some of the local shops in my area...and then who knows.

FBFF

This weeks FBFF is all about nails Which is hard for me since I never do mine. I get pretty picky with my nails and the second they chip, it's time to take off the polish. But I put that aside today and came up with this:

It's my version of "newspaper" nails. I think typewriter font on nails looks lovely, but I got to thinking what else could you use besides newspaper. I scrounged up some old sheet music and a 1950's Vintage Vogue Magazine. They worked out just as well as news paper did.

Here is what you need:

Rubbing Alcohol

Base Color (preferably light, I went with a peach and a gold)
